Description

By Nancy M. Serles.

Nancy explains her method for creating freeform images within the framework of a loom-controlled structure without the use of a draw-loom or pick-up stick. It is a technique of handling a boat shuttle as different treadling combinations are used during its path through the shed. Once she mastered the technique, she set out to explore how it could be used in a variety of structures. Section 1 of the book covers overshot, summer and winter, Ms and Os, huck, Bronson lace, and brocade. The second section includes variations on these structures, using two different wefts. Along the way, she incorporates tips and suggestions for fixing broken threads, finishing, handling selvedges, and more.

Nancy describes this book as aimed at intermediate and advanced weavers but notes that even newer weavers can follow the instructions to use these techniques. The drafts are written in liftplan mode (or for skeleton tie-up), so they might take a little examination by those not familiar with the style, but are easily followed.
